I grew up in Czech Republic. It’s a beautiful country with deep history and a very specific way of doing things: especially when it comes to money and retirement.

In Czech Republic, the mindset is simple. You work hard, you pay your taxes, and when you reach retirement age, the government takes care of you. It’s a "pay-as-you-go" system. The workers of today fund the retirees of today. When it’s your turn, the state pension is there as your primary safety net. You don’t have to worry too much about "building a nest egg" because the foundation is already built for you.

The "Aha!" Moment: Retirement in the US is Different.

In the United States, the burden of retirement shifted from the government to the individual. Sure, we have Social Security, but for most people, that’s just a floor: not a lifestyle. If you want to retire comfortably, you have to build your own path.
